Oral Cancer Screening

Take an examination to detect abnormalities affecting your oral health.

Oral cancer screenings are done routinely by your dentist to look for the early warning signs of oral cancer. The earlier oral cancer is detected; the better chances are of eliminating the disease. If initial screenings are inconclusive, your dentist may require more tests to be sure. During the exam, your dentist will look for any open sores or red spots that could indicate early onset oral cancer. While rare, this form of cancer effects mostly older patients, and is checked for at every routine cleaning.

Some people are more susceptible to oral cancer than others, like those who use chewing tobacco, smoke cigarettes, or drink alcohol heavily. Speak with your dentist to learn more about how oral cancer can develop from these harmful activities.
